Recipes
I’ve never believed in “secret recipes.”
A recipe is a starting point. It can tell you the ingredients, the measurements, the temperature, and the technique, but it can’t replace experience. It doesn’t teach your hands what something should feel like, your palate what it needs, or your instincts when it’s time to make an adjustment.
That’s where the craft lives.
As a chef and an educator, I believe knowledge is meant to be shared. The chefs who helped shape me shared what they knew, and I have a responsibility to do the same for the next cook, student, or curious person who wants to learn.
So there are no secret recipes here. Take them. Cook them. Change them. Make them better. Make them yours.
Recipes give us a place to start. What we do with them is what makes us cooks.

The Power of the White Coat Series

I’ve always enjoyed writing, though I wouldn’t really call myself a writer.
Over the last few years, I’ve taken on some new roles in my life. I moved from teaching in a high school classroom to working at a technical college. I stepped into a national leadership role with the American Culinary Federation. I also took on a larger role helping lead my son’s Cub Scout Pack.
I’ve made mistakes along the way. I’ve also learned a lot.
Some of those lessons came from kitchens. Others came from classrooms, professional organizations, Scouting, community work, and simply trying to become a better leader.
I decided I wanted to start putting some of those observations and lessons into writing.
Beginning with The Power of the White Coat, I plan to release one article each month as part of a 12-part series focused on leadership, professionalism, service, mentorship, growth, and the responsibility that comes with being someone others count on.
